Become a Sweet Dealer with New Online Game

By now, faithful readers, you should be well aware that the Dairy Queen® system launched its first-ever permanent value menu, Sweet Deals, this past winter. Customers in the United States can mix and match nine menu items, choosing two items for $3, three for $4 and four for $5. There are more than 20,000 combinations to be made!
To support the new value menu, in March, the Dairy Queen system launched a Sweet Deals online game, which can be found at www.DQ.com. The game showcases the food and treat items that can be found at any Dairy Queen location offering Sweet Deals through a game board format that is a replica of the Sweet Deals menu. Items appear randomly on the board with different colors for the background, and users must choose unique value menu combinations to unlock their deal before time runs out.
There are 12 rounds, and after completing each level, users earn a ranking, such as “Taste Tester,” “Match Maker,” “Sweet Styler,” and the ultimate title—”Sweet Dealer.” The game keeps a tally of the user’s combinations and ranks their score accordingly. There are also a series of bonus levels and additional points for special combinations.
Sound complicated? It’s totally not. It’s easy to learn and I could play for hours. Shhh! Don’t tell my boss! Try it out and let us know what you think! www.DQ.com

I like the work you’ve done on your site. It’s interesting and well worth the time to visit.
“…nine menu items, choosing two items for $3, three for $4 and four for $5. There are more than 20,000 combinations to be made!”
9×9=81
9×9x9=729
9×9x9×9=6561 (assuming you ordered four identical items)
Unless DQ is splitting hairs by including in their math different pop flavors and burger condiments and the like, the “more than 20,000 combinations to be made” claim is utterly untrue. That they would be so blatant about it doesn’t speak well of their opinion of their customers’ general intelligence.
We’ve gotten this comment a couple times now so here’s the answer we’ve been given.
24 total products available on the sweet deals menu:
6 flavors of sundaes
6 flavors of soft drinks
3 flavors of dipped cones
4 types of chicken wraps
1 size fry
1 cheeseburger
1 size onion ring
1 side salad
1 hot dog
With the potential product offering mix in mind, we approached the problem using an equation that provides total “combinations with repetition.” The equation for each Sweet Deals product offering is:
(n+r-1)! ÷ r!(n-1)!
Since we have three Sweet Deals offerings (2 products for $3, 3 products for $4, or 4 products for $5), we add up each of the available combinations within each offering:
[(24+2-1)! ÷ 2!(24-1)!] + [(24+3-1)! ÷ 3!(24-1)!] + [(24+4-1)! ÷ 4!(24-1)!]
= 300 + 2600 + 17550
= 20450
This, of course, accounts for potentially purchasing two hot dogs as a combination or even 4 soft drinks of the varying flavors.
Why can’t I find blizzard cake flavors???
The Blizzard Cake flavors fall inlline with our Blizzard Treats that we sell with a few exceptions. Please contact your local Dairy Queen to find out what flavors they have available. We are currently working on adding this to the Dairy Queen website.
