From what I learned back in about 1995 from my land lady, Rose Greene, her husband invented the Buster Bar in the Dairy Queen store they owned in River Falls, WI several decades ago (perhaps during the 50's?). Not certain what his name was or if that information was accurate. I do remember seeing their "Golden Cone" awards from DQ proudly displayed in Rose's dining room when I rented from her. She was an amazing woman!

So let me get this straight: this is a blog post put out by Dairy Queen on its official website by one of its employees about how much better cheap ice cream dipped in chocolate shell is than Europe's cultural, natural and historic wonders? And also somewhat about the company's unwillingness to expand into that market, possibly due to earlier failures in Slovenia?

Jan, thank you for your post! I did not realize we have had locations in Slovenia - I learned something new. We did have several locations that we had been developing in Slovenia in the 1990s. I cannot say why the locations are no longer operating or why they closed. At this time we do not have any immediate plans to open any locations in Slovenia or in Europe.

I remember, that we used to have a Dairy Queen store in the 1990s in our city. It was the biggest food-chain store in 2 levels (rumours said that it was the biggest store from DQ in the world), and I stopped there many times. Later it was discontinued, I think becouse of the big competition from McDo..... which remains the only food-chain in Slovenia. I feel sorry for that, and since then I was looking for another store of DQ in Europe, but from your article I think, that none exist any longer on this continent ?

Hi, Suzy! Back in the mid-1950’s when Frank Moffet and Dean Mohler (co-inventors of the Dilly Bar) were testing the Dilly Bar product, one of the customers who were trying them said, “Boy, this thing is a dilly!” And that’s how the Dilly bar got its name. The Dilly Bar you purchased is a manufactured Dilly Bars. IDQ offers manufactured novelties for those Dairy Queen restaurants that do not have the space or the staff to make their own. Unfortunately, the manufacturing equipment is not able to duplicate the trademark curl on our Dilly Bars. There are positives, however, to the manufacturing process. We can offer our Dilly Bars in additional flavors, including Mint and no sugar added. I hope this helps!

Why are they called dilly bars?

Also, I used to work at DQ and remember dipping dilly bars- chocolate and butterscotch; we also had pre-packaged chocolate mint. (I see there are also cherry and heath dilly bars, but we never had those.) I went to DQ today and expected the little trademark curl... but, sadly, they were pre-packaged. What's the story with that??
