Hello Ralph,

Thank you for contacting International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ) with your pricing concerns. I just wanted to provide you with some info regarding Dairy Queens products in comparison to that of McDonald’s to hopefully shed a little light on why our products cost more. In regard to our burgers, our patties are about twice the size of those that McDonalds’ serves. Here’s the breakdown of the difference in hamburger patties for you.

If you’re interested in seeing the nutrition comparison online, I provided the links for you below.

Dairy Queen

This will take you directly to the Double Cheeseburger nutrition info, and what’s shown is the information for the hamburger patties only.

McDonald’s

This nutrition calculator won’t take you directly to the cheeseburger info. To get there, under selected menu items, choose double cheeseburger. On the next page, click on the + symbol next to double cheeseburger to see the nutrition info for the beef patty.

In regard to pricing in general, as you may know, the majority of Dairy Queen restaurants are independently owned and operated franchises. The pricing of Dairy Queen products and all pricing policies are ultimately determined by the independent franchise operators of each store and restaurant. However, IDQ does provide its franchise operators with 'suggested tier pricing guidelines' for every product that helps the franchise owners factor in for regional differences that exist throughout the United States in terms of the costs associated with their individual labor, supply and facility expenses.
If you would like for us to contact a particular franchise owner for you, you may contact us here http://www.dairyqueen.com/us-en/talk-to-dq/locate-restaurant/ ,with location information. Thank you again for taking the time to contact IDQ and share your concerns.
