Pi Day!

Pi  Day!!

I love PIE — and I love that we can have fun with math on Pi Day.  Pi equals 3.1415926535… and we celebrate Pi Day on 3/14.

Pi represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter (its width) and its circumference (the distance around the circle). I don’t want to spoil the fun you will have searching the Internet, or your math textbook, for interesting facts and information about Pi.  I confess to not being much of a numbers gal; still, I find days like this help pique my interest.  Who doesn’t like pie and how much dinner time discussion can you get out of learning (or in my case, re-learning) about Pi while eating a piece of pie?

We have DELICIOUS Pie Blizzard® Treats at DQ® stores and restaurants.  Why, you could even use Pi to calculate the volume of the DQ Cup in which your favorite DQ Pie Blizzard Treat arrives.  Which flavor will you choose?  Banana Cream Pie Blizzard Treat?  French Silk Pie Blizzard Treat?

Banana Cream Pie Blizzard would be my choice. My 1st memories are of making homemade Banana ice cream in the old wood, hand-crank ice cream freezer. My job was to sit on top of the freezer, while my brothers would crank, until they couldn’t crank any longer. We hand milked our cows and mom would make a pudding using the milk & cream that went to the top of the milk. She used bananas, vanilla & Junket tablets, too. Then the pudding had to cool down. This was before we had electricity or a refrigerator. We had an ice box before we had a refrigerator. To freeze the ice cream, my brothers got the block of ice from the ice box & the ice pick & chipped ice to put into the outside of the freezer, along with salt, to fill it up, once mom had the ice cream ingredients inside, along with the paddles and the cover. Then, they put a gunny sack on top and sat me, on top of the freezer, to hold it down. Then, they started cranking the freezer, until the handle wouldn’t turn any more. Then the ice cream was done. That was so delicious, back in 1940. I keep trying to find delicious banana ice cream, now.
