Thankful for the Mini

Posted by Lisa C under Blizzard on

I am beyond excited about the new Mini Blizzard® Treat, which will be available at DQ® restaurants across the country starting this month. I am mostly excited because this size will provide the justification I need to visit my local DQ store more often.

I am the type of quick-service restaurant (QSR) visitor who makes a point to order a salad or other healthier menu item primarily so I can treat myself with a DQ dessert item. The problem was that a small Blizzard Treat was more than I wanted, both in terms of quantity and calories. The Mini Blizzard Treat is the perfect amount for me, and I don’t have to feel guilty about eating it.

There were times I used to purchase a small Blizzard Treat and try to only eat half of it. But it was so good, I would finish it before I realized what I was doing. Now, I can get that same satisfaction with the Mini Blizzard Treat. I am thrilled.

I also think I will enjoy the variety of flavors offered now because of the Mini size. If I was going to splurge on a Blizzard Treat once in awhile, I would often get my favorite flavor, mostly because it was a special, occasional treat. With the Mini size, I will visit my local DQ store more often for treats and try additional flavors on some of those visits.

There are many reasons to love the new Mini Blizzard Treat, and I’m sure I’ll figure out many more. For now, I will appreciate the fact that I can enjoy them more often, with less guilt. Yum!

My wife and I agree that the mini is a great size. The small is 15 Weight Watchers points, more than half our daily allowance. The mini is about half the points of a small and can be fitted in as an occasional treat. Hope DQ considers making it available permanently.

Honestly….health wise the difference between a 6oz blizzard and a 12oz blizzard is negligiable….if thats what you are worried about you have larger health problems than what size blizzard to buy….this mini blizzard thing just seems like a big sham to gloss over th eventual price increase of blizzards yet again. Oh well, McFlurry hasnt raised in price in a while….I guess I’ll be going to McDonalds now for my oreo ice cream treat fix which is a shame, because I always get a kick out of them flipping my blizzard upside down.

I am so excited and thankful for the Mini Blizzard, too! I had heard that McDonald’s started offering a snack-size McFlurry, and I tried that because I need a really small size to control myself. While I like the McFlurry, it doesn’t rock my world like the Blizzard does (there are so many more Blizzard flavors, of course, and they just taste better to me), so when I heard that DQ started offering the Mini-Blizzard, I had to rush out and get one immediately—the perfect size! I was able to indulge but not feel guilty afterwards. I am so glad that DQ has done this! I will most certainly be visiting MUCH more often now.

I LOVE the mini-blizzards. Blizzards are my favorite treat but, like so many others, I stayed away from buying them because there were so many calories and it was such a large serving even in the small size. (The difference between 6oz of ice cream and 12oz of ice cream is alot when counting calories.) I really like that my favorite treat can now easily be figured into my eating plan. The kids do often ask for DQ and many times I would say “no” because nothing on the menu appealed to me that fit into my calorie ranges. Now, however, I know I can take the kids and have a yummy treat too.

how do i do Dairy Queen?…well i don’t know anymore since you closed it in Burlington city new jersey..What up with that!!!

@Donna — I am sorry your local DQ has closed! How disappointing. DQ stores and restaurants close for all kinds of reasons. Perhaps one of these two locations will be close enough for you to visit on occasion:

DAIRY QUEEN LTD BRAZIER
3569 HULMEVILLE RD
BENSALEM, PA 19020-4311

DAIRY QUEEN/ORANGE JULIUS TREAT CTR
FRANKLIN MILLS
1520 FRANKLIN MILLS CIR
PHILADELPHIA, PA 19154-3132

Love the mini-blizzard. Currently on Weight Watchers and the mini-blizzard makes for a perfect small treat that doesn’t blow my whole day!! Also great for the kiddos, not too much treat – just the right amount!

Thanks Carolyn K for the nutrition calculator info. Was able to get not only calories but fat and protein content as well.

I too am on WW and LOVE the mini blizzard! After all, the key to success on any diet plan is making simple changes to your way of eating that you can live with FOR LIFE. NOT excluding foods you love or crave, by incorporating lower calorie versions of the things you love,in moderation, just like DQ mini blizzards…its so much easier to stick with a lower calorie diet plan because you don’t feel deprived. Thanks DQ for offering the smaller portion size!

Thank you for the mini blizzard! Great size and I can still enjoy a treat and not blow my whole Weight Watcher points. Thank you!

I didn’t know there was a mini blizzard until now. I love the size of the mini. It’s just enough for dessert. Please keep it.

Hi Linda,
I’m glad you enjoy the mini. I agree, they are the perfect size and as far as I know they aren’t going anywhere. :)

we hosted a DQ Blizzards at the end of year 4th grade party. It a blast and we had to run bake to DQ to get moor.

I vote for minis

Just purchased two mini blizzard’s for just under $8.00, I thought that was a little pricey. Was that not around the cost of a small blizzard $4.00 ?

Hi Marilyn,

In regard to pricing in general, as you may know, the majority of Dairy Queen restaurants are independently owned and operated franchises. The pricing of Dairy Queen products and all pricing policies are ultimately determined by the independent franchise operators of each store and restaurant. If you would like for us to contact a particular franchise owner for you, you may contact us at http://www.dairyqueen.com/us-en/talk-to-dq/locate-restaurant/ ,with location information. Thank you for taking the time to contact IDQ and share your concerns.
