OK – not totally sure what that means other than every time I look outside and see the sun peeking through the clouds and smell a freshly grilled burger or a Strawberry Cheesequake®Blizzard® Treat I think of summer. The kind of lazy summer days where you hang out at the park, toss a ball around, walk down to the DQ® store and grab a Blizzard® Treat. Man, I love those lazy days full of good times. What’s your favorite summer tradition?

To me, Tuesdays can be a real blah day of the week. It’s not Monday, but it’s still pretty far from the weekend. Don’t worry, I have the cure (please, hold your applause until the end). To overcome the blahness, I make Tuesday my $5 Buck Lunch day with a special twist. So instead of getting my $5 Buck Lunch with a sundae on the side as usual, I upgrade to a small Blizzard® Treat for just $1 extra. And now Tuesday is my favorite day of the week…next to Friday, and Saturday, and Sunday—okay, not counting the weekend, Tuesday is definitely my favorite day. (You can applaud now.)
I recently received a nice email from a couple, Barbara and A.B., who eat at their local DQ® store in Georgia almost every single day. Their love for the brand goes back more than 51 years, which is also as long as they have been married. When they started dating in the ’50s, they would go on Sunday drives to the north Georgia mountains and end their date with a special DQ treat—a Dilly® Bar for Barbara and a dip cone for A.B. Now they enjoy meeting their friends for lunch at their local DQ store several times a week. They often end their meal with a half chocolate, half strawberry sundae, which they share.
How long have you been visiting your local DQ store?

SUMMERTIME!! DQ®!!! Treats!!!
I love all four seasons and up here in Minnesota, summer always seems to be the briefest… poof! It’s gone.
We have a lovely patio in the front of our house – perfect for entertaining, or impromptu gatherings. Dilly® Bars, Buster Bars®, No Sugar Added Bars…and DQ Cakes and Blizzard® Cakes… any of these treats turn a regular gathering into a party. I love the cakes and the Dilly Bars, personally, and am always surprised at how quickly the Buster Bars go when there is a choice.
When our kids were little and playing on ball teams, the DQ treats we’d bring for end of game or end of season parties were always a huge hit – and less work for me!

My husband will always be #1 on my list of Grill Masters, but Eric at my local DQ® restaurant makes a mean burger too. I know that even when my husband is traveling, I can go to DQ and get an awesome burger. This month it’s the Sweet Apple BBQ GrillBurger™–delicious smoky BBQ sauce that is mixed with tangy apples, with pepper jack cheese and hickory smoked bacon, all atop a 100% beef GrillBurger. Plus I don’t have to clean up!
Long gone are the days you could only get dessert at a Dairy Queen® store, now you can get your whole meal without leaving. But, in the famous words of LeVar Burton, you don’t have to take my word for it. Go try one at your local DQ restaurant today!

Pretty much I’m like Buddy the Elf — if it has sugar, I’ll eat it. Now, I’ve never gone to the extreme of drinking syrup or putting it on my spaghetti, but that’s not to say it hasn’t crossed my mind. The older I get, the more apparent it is that I need to eat everything in moderation and as part of a balanced diet. (Have I mentioned my BFF is a genius nutritionist?)
I think that is why 2011 was so hard and 2012 WILL be so hard. I spent 2011 taste testing all of the ridiculously creative and NEW products for 2012. 2012 will obviously be spent eating said ridiculously creative and new products. April’s Blizzard® of the Month is a new flavor, so there are 30 days of Mini Blizzard Treats coming my way there, followed by May’s Blizzard of the Month, which, in my opinion, will be second only to my most very favorite ever. I can’t mention my favorite by name because we get inundated with comments about bringing it back. Is it Harry Potter where they have a character named HeWho (He who shall not be named)? Well this would be ItWhich (shall not be named). Oh I love ItWhich.
Also making a comeback this year is one of my all time favorites, the Frozen Hot Chocolate. Rich cocoa fudge AND DQ® soft serve with a swirl of one of your favorite flavors: Double Fudge, Caramel or Peanut Butter? Yes please!
This is just the tip of the iceberg; we also have a ton of new and delicious food items hitting your local store throughout the year. Yep, 2012 will be pretty sweet for DQ and pretty sweet for me!
I love PIE — and I love that we can have fun with math on Pi Day. Pi equals 3.1415926535… and we celebrate Pi Day on 3/14.
Pi represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter (its width) and its circumference (the distance around the circle). I don’t want to spoil the fun you will have searching the Internet, or your math textbook, for interesting facts and information about Pi. I confess to not being much of a numbers gal; still, I find days like this help pique my interest. Who doesn’t like pie and how much dinner time discussion can you get out of learning (or in my case, re-learning) about Pi while eating a piece of pie?
We have DELICIOUS Pie Blizzard® Treats at DQ® stores and restaurants. Why, you could even use Pi to calculate the volume of the DQ Cup in which your favorite DQ Pie Blizzard Treat arrives. Which flavor will you choose? Banana Cream Pie Blizzard Treat? French Silk Pie Blizzard Treat?
I have become the official DQ® Cake purchaser for family members’ birthdays. Recently I was asked to bring one to a party where we were celebrating the birthdays of one of my sisters and my two nephews. My goal was to get a DQ Blizzard® Cake that would appeal to all 14 party goers and not be decorated either too feminine or too masculine. I called my local DQ restaurant for assistance. It didn’t take more than a minute to decide on a 10-inch Heath Bar® Blizzard Cake with “Happy Birthday” and all three names on it. It was as simple as can be.
When I stopped by the restaurant a few days later to pick up the cake, it looked perfect. I arrived at the birthday party and was soon considered to be the hero of the day, just for bringing a DQ Blizzard Cake. People could not stop talking about it. The process to choose and purchase the cake was so easy, but the way everyone at the party raved about it, you would have thought I spent hours making and decorating the cake myself.
Next time you need to bring a dessert to an occasion, consider a DQ Cake. Everyone will thank you for the special treat!
So the last Thursday of every month we are going to deem “Throwback Thursday”. Maybe we’ll share an old product, perhaps nostalgic merchandise or vintage photos, anything in our archives or from our fans is fair game. This week I’m paying respect to the Mr. Misty®. As a child of the 80′s and 90′s, I spent many summer nights sipping a grape flavored Mr. Misty… usually adding vanilla soft-serve and making a Mr. Misty float (the BEST!). I came across this old product poster and it sent me right back to my younger days. Does this look familiar to anyone else?!?
I heard from a loyal DQ® customer who has been running triathlons with his friend since 1988. They had created a DQ tradition—to stop at every DQ store on their way home from the faraway races to get a Blizzard® Treat to celebrate accomplishing their feat. Since then, they have committed every single summer to always include a Tour de Dairy Queen® road trip with a little friendly competition in a small-town triathlon thrown in for good measure.
To date, they have completed 19 trips and consumed 85 treats each. They did make a major modification to the rules in 1991 however. After spending three hours hunting down a DQ store in one area, they decided that one stop in a major metropolitan area would count as an official stop.
Another time, a friend gave them a list to help map out the DQ stops well in advance of the race. One summer they even took a detour home because the longer route had considerably more stores. They admit that their number one reason for the endeavors is for the fitness, but appreciate that they have found a way to make fitness and DQ treats go hand in hand.
