A Not-So-Typical Day at DQ Corporate Headquarters
Posted by JT under Creating Smiles and Stories on
One of the best things about working at the Dairy Queen® corporate headquarters is how cool my kids think my job is. As far as they’re concerned, nothing could be better than spending all day surrounded by Blizzard® Treats, DQ® Cakes and Chicken Strip Baskets.
Although the reality of work life here is not quite as exciting (or treat-filled) as they think it is, much of their take on what goes on at the DQ home office is the result of the annual “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” event. Each summer, the school-aged kids of DQ employees get to spend a day at the office, building their own Blizzard treats, taste-testing new food products, learning about food safety, playing games and earning a “paycheck” in the form of a Dairy Queen gift card.
During this year’s event, 97 kids participated. The fun included an Amazing Race style scavenger hunt, which had them all racing to complete tasks like posing for pictures with Curly Top® the Cone in CEO John Gainor’s corner office, and hula hooping in the parking lot outside. While the younger kids practiced their cake decorating skills, the older kids divided into teams and were tasked with inventing a new Blizzard flavor and then devising a marketing plan to support it. It was a day full of smiles, stories and DQ fun.

This is awesome!
My kids truly loved the magic of DQ and when I could bring them to work, it was simply magical.
Happy meal toys really bother me b/c they are usually just junk and therefore wasteful. However, my daughter got the Spirit of America memory game cards last week at DQ and I thought that it was a great toy!!! – educational and promotes old-fashioned (and maybe family) fun!!!!! I thought that it was great – very refreshing!!! Thought you would like to know!!!
Thanks for your comment Jant! I’m glad you and your daughter enjoy the cards!
we arrived at 2pm at the dairy queen on grand ave in billings mt and was greeted immediately in russian by the man from england and he help my mother interpret the menue in our language. the food was fantastic and the service this man gave was fantastic too. we are going to to here more often thanks for the great service
The latest commercial they have aired with the mother on the front of the car trying to touch the DQ Blizzard van is HORRIBLE! We really don’t need people doing stupid stunts like that to try to get a DQ Blizzard. And we all know some of these people out there will think its the thing to do. Please join me in imploring DQ to stop running that commercial. Thanks all!
Sheri, I am so sorry we’ve upset you with our commercial. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us, and i will ensure your comments are shared with our marketing team.
Your “trademark for upside down Blizzards” are not practiced here in Delaware, OH. Can you please tell me why/explain. Every state {and I’ve visited quite a few} where I’ve ordered a blizzard they turn it upside down. But, not Delaware, OH…..they never practiced this trademark.
Hi, Jan Marie! While turning the Blizzard Treats upside down is a trademarked move, the decision whether to do so is determined at each independently owned and operated DQ restaurant. I hope this helps!
this web page doesn’t look right on Safari, but yet your other pages do. unusual…
Thanks for the feedback we will for sure look into this!
I have seen it all now. Your latest commercial playing now on our local stations is in my eyes cruelty to animals. It involves the kitten and the balloon. No wonder our world does what it sees on the T.V. Please as an animal lover take this commercial the T.V.
Sincerely,
Cathy Wyatt
Your new commercials are so stupid that I feel smarter just by watching them. Just FYI, your commercials make me want to eat at carls jr or burger king. Have a nice day!
So here’s a good one. My daughters birthday is Thursday. I call dq in my city for a birthday cake on Tuesday. They were rude and said that it wasn’t enough time. Cmon!!! I said how about Thursday night. They complained but said ok. I asked if they could write on it and they said no way. Where can I go to complain?
So sorry to hear this Brian! Please contact our consumer relations department with the store information at http://tiny.cc/3uv19. Thank you!
