Community Volunteering

I love theater- music, drama, dance…the arts.  Just love all of it. One of my earliest memories is as a tiny girl going to see The Nutcracker Ballet with my parents.  If I close my eyes I can still see that stage and the dancers.  Wonderful!

I am currently assisting one of our local community theater groups with props for their April production.  With most of our city currently buried under several feet of snow, garage sales are out of the question.  Rats.  Thank goodness for second-hand stores, discount stores and online sale sites. 

 I have made a connection in the last couple of days that will help me find the last bits of furniture I will need for our set.  Connections. That’s really what it’s all about isn’t it?  Connecting with others in your community, building relationships and getting to know people…really know them, not just the “Hi,” “Bye,” “I’ve seen you in the community,” kind of  know.

This kind of connection is what American Dairy Queen Corporation upholds as one of our values — giving back to the communities in which we live, work and do business.  It’s one of the reasons I’m so proud to be part of the DQ Family.

DQ is a part of your community, because the people who work there are part of your community, too. I’ve gotten a lot of mail talking about cool DQ operators who make your Blizz trips extra sweet.

Dairy Queen Girl Scouts Appreciation Week Was A Success!

Hi Blizz fans!

Did you know last week (July 20 -26) was DQ Girl Scouts Appreciation week? I’ve been getting emails from Girl Scouts all over (Kentucky…Kansas….states beginning with letters other than K) who hung out at their local DQ and learned about a running a small business from their local Blizzard Wizards. So awesome!

Wish that was around when I was a Scout! Did any Girl Scouts Blizz fans participate? Or if you’re a Girl Scouts alum, what kind of fun stuff did you do with your troop?

Helmet

Hey Blizz fans,
It’s going to be a rewarding summer for kids in Carver County, MN. Their local DQ teamed up with the Carver County Sheriff’s Department to give free dipped cones to kids who “get caught” wearing their helmets while rollerblading or biking. GREAT IDEA!

I love hearing about DQ getting involved in the community. Do you have any stories about your local DQ? Maybe they sponsor a little league team or host a special event.  Let’s hear it, Blizz fans!
