I Jiggle Therefore I Am

Posted by admin under Blizzard on September 27th, 2010

I try and take decent care of my body, and as my best friend, who happens to be a Dairy Queen® nutritionist, tells me, it IS possible to maintain a balanced diet while including DQ® treats in moderation.

Here’s the problem: Who wants to eat DQ treats in moderation?

It’s the same EVERY time we go into a store; I get an Arctic Rush® slush (140 calories), then longingly stare at my husband as he eats his medium Blizzard® Treat (a few more than 140 calories). It’s not that he’s not in shape, he’s just the typical “stop drinking soda, lose 12 pounds” type of guy who really doesn’t have to do much more than think about working out to actually lose weight.

I, on the other hand, have to watch what I eat.  Lucky for me I’m a runner so my personal trainer (me) is always only a couple steps away from a great workout. And I’ve really been working hard lately because the October Blizzard of the Month, Pumpkin Pie, is my all time favorite. Plus, now, with the rollout of probably the best product on the DQ menu, the Mini Blizzard, I won’t have to work quite so hard to earn my Blizzard Treat.

What Blizzard flavor are you willing to go the extra mile for?

A Flight of Mini Blizzard Treats?

Posted by Lisa Y under Blizzard on August 30th, 2010

I was recently at a corporate DQ® meeting where restaurant operators were discussing the pilot test for the Mini Blizzard® Treat, which occurred prior to the system-wide August rollout. One operator has a DQ restaurant near a large college campus. Now, when I think college, I picture a group of guys buying double cheeseburgers and large Blizzard Treats. How would the Mini Blizzard Treat satisfy this group?

Well, it seems that students around this particular DQ restaurant purchase a group of Mini Blizzard Treats in a variety of flavors. It’s almost like when a fine-dining restaurant offers a flight of wines. It enables the patron to try different types of wine, almost as a “sampling.”

That is what these college students are doing. They can try several different Blizzard flavors with their order, instead of just getting one flavor in a larger size.

I think this sounds like an excellent idea. What do you think?

Thankful for the Mini

I am beyond excited about the new Mini Blizzard® Treat, which will be available at DQ® restaurants across the country starting this month. I am mostly excited because this size will provide the justification I need to visit my local DQ store more often.

I am the type of quick-service restaurant (QSR) visitor who makes a point to order a salad or other healthier menu item primarily so I can treat myself with a DQ dessert item. The problem was that a small Blizzard Treat was more than I wanted, both in terms of quantity and calories. The Mini Blizzard Treat is the perfect amount for me, and I don’t have to feel guilty about eating it.

There were times I used to purchase a small Blizzard Treat and try to only eat half of it. But it was so good, I would finish it before I realized what I was doing. Now, I can get that same satisfaction with the Mini Blizzard Treat. I am thrilled.

I also think I will enjoy the variety of flavors offered now because of the Mini size. If I was going to splurge on a Blizzard Treat once in awhile, I would often get my favorite flavor, mostly because it was a special, occasional treat. With the Mini size, I will visit my local DQ store more often for treats and try additional flavors on some of those visits.

There are many reasons to love the new Mini Blizzard Treat, and I’m sure I’ll figure out many more. For now, I will appreciate the fact that I can enjoy them more often, with less guilt. Yum!
