Do you like Piña Coladas? How about getting caught in the rain? Keep going . . . you know you want to sing along! I can’t help but sing that song every time I hear, think or drink a Piña Colada. So needless to say it’s been stuck in my head for the last 14 days. Why you might ask? This July and August Orange Julius® locations in North America are featuring new limited-time Colada Julius Originals. It’s like paradise in a cup, only paradise comes in three flavors. There’s Piña Colada Julius, Mango Colada Julius and Strawberry Colada Julius.
A whole-lotta Colada!
I suppose since I won’t be jet setting with my family down to Antigua anytime soon, the frothy slurps of paradise at Orange Julius stores are my next best option. So for now, I’ll grab my Mango Colada Julius Original, turn of my Jimmy Buffett tunes, kick back and enjoy my summer in Minnesota.
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s. . . not Superman either. But it is the new Superberry Premium Fruit Smoothie, and although it doesn’t fly, it really is super! This March and April, participating U.S. Orange Julius® locations are featuring the new Superberry Premium Fruit Smoothie. It’s blended fresh with a pomegranate juice blend, blueberries, Sambazon® açai and low-fat frozen yogurt for a smoothie that is nothing short of, you guessed it, SUPER. It won’t be around for long, so try one today before the goodness is gone!
P.S. – For the many of us who have struggled to pronounce açai, it’s “ah-sigh-ee”.
Ahhh, the madness of Black Friday is finally just around the corner. Crazed shoppers and deal-chasers have been planning their Friday early morning shopping excursion for the last several weeks. I can truthfully say that I’ve never been up at 2 a.m. on Friday heading to my local mall, but I think that has to do with the fact that I’m not willing to leave my warm cozy home for sub-zero temps and snow.
This year may be different for me though, because I recently received a 40% off coupon for one of my favorite retailers and it’s valid until noon! Heck, maybe I’ll bring my daughter and we’ll make a day of it, complete with a stop by Orange Julius®. PS – my local mall actually has THREE Orange Julius locations, which makes it really easy to fuel up while shopping! We hear it from loyal fans all the time, “My holiday shopping trip isn’t complete without my stop by Orange Julius. It’s part of my holiday tradition!”
What is your holiday tradition? Will you be out and about at 3 a.m. this Friday?

I don’t know about all of you but I love hot dogs. I love foot-long hot dogs from the Minnesota State Fair, I like a Ball Park frank at the game, and I like them fully loaded in Chicago. However, my favorite hot dog, and I’m not just saying this because they pay me to, is a DQ®/OJ 100% all-beef hot dog (shout out to Eric Hughes!). DQ and Orange Julius® stores have awesome dogs topped just about any way you can think of. Click on the video to see for yourself:
Hypercolor, stirrup leggings, body suits, snap bracelets, Girbaud jeans and Orange Julius® drinks. What do all of these fabulous things have in common you might ask? The mall and my childhood! I hear it all the time from customers , “Oh my god, you guys still exist. I used to get Orange Julius drinks all the time at [insert mall name here]!” Yes, we do still exist and yes we continue to grow today, but that is beside the point for now.
Every time I come across someone who makes this statement, I can’t help but be immediately taken back 15+ years to my childhood. This time of year brings back for me all the exhausting back-to-school shopping trips I was forced to go on with my mother. I dreaded it every year because good ol’ ma was going to make me try on those ‘old lady’ jeans that I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing and she would certainly never understand my desire to stop by Contempo Casuals to find an outfit that closely resembled what Kelly Kapowski wore that week on Saved by the Bell.
This weekend, I stopped by the mall with my mom for a few ‘must haves’ and the mall was buzzing with young girls and their mothers attempting the same impossible task that we did 15 years ago. My mom and I couldn’t help but laugh. Granted they weren’t searching for Girbaud jeans (p.s. those still exist www.girbaud.com), jellies or Multiples but we could read the angst on the majority of faces. We strolled past one of the Orange Julius stores and were reminded that the highlight of our shopping trip was always a stop by this one destination because it was one location where we could buy something and not argue. Judging by the line that day some things haven’t changed.
As we left the mall I realized three things were certain. One, as my daughter grows I can only hope that she doesn’t care enough about clothes to go back-to-school shopping each year. Secondly, if she does care, a stop by the Orange Julius store might help ease the pain. Lastly, I missed all the fashions that I loved during my childhood and would do anything to get my hands on a pair of old Guess jeans with a pinch roll!
Find it hard to believe there is a whole month dedicated to celebrating the strawberry? Guess again! The month of May is actually National Strawberry Month and here in the Orange Julius® system, we never miss out on an opportunity to celebrate. On May 1, we are launching a new limited-time flavor blended fresh with pineapple, orange juice and . . . . strawberries. The Pineapple Berry Daylight™ is a Light Smoothie that is sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener and contains only 210 calories in a 20 oz.
Not a strawberry fan? No worries, there are plenty of other things for you to celebrate in May. How about National Salad Month, National Good Car Keeping Month or if you’re feeling a bit greedy, National Mine Month (actually I think my two year old celebrates this one all year around)! True story, these are all on a list of “National Events and Months” that even includes National Toilet Tank Repair Month in October.
If you’re ever looking for a reason to celebrate, you can check out the full list of national months and events here. Until then you can be looking forward to June when it’s National Candy Month, a perfect excuse to try one (or more) flavors on the Candy Cravers Blizzard® menu.
Tis’ the season for New Year’s resolutions! This year I’ve committed, along with millions of other Americans, to shed some pounds and become a healthier person. The odds are against me — statistics show that only 64% of people make it past the one-month marker. In addition, I work at the DQ® corporate headquarters. I mean, who can pass up the chance to try new eats and treats? It wasn’t until I recently became more calorie conscious that I realized the DQ and Orange Julius® menus offer lots of tasty options that won’t throw my New Year’s resolution off track.
The Sweet Deals value menu is a good place to start. The Grilled Chicken Wrap has only 200 calories. I can pair that with a Side Salad with fat-free Italian dressing and have a filling lunch for less than 300 calories. On days when I want to spice things up a little, the FlameThrower® Grilled Chicken Wrap has only 10 additional calories. If I need a treat, I can add a small Strawberry Sundae at only 260 calories. There are lots of ways to mix and match for a satisfying, complete meal.
Outside of the Sweet Deals menu, a Grilled Chicken Salad with fat-free ranch dressing and a small vanilla cone ends up at 495 calories. The DQ Grilled Chicken Sandwich has 370 calories. Hold the mayo and it’s only 260. And while I’m not really a fan of most fast-food grilled chicken sandwiches (so many of them are rubbery or dry or just plain weird), the DQ version is very good. (No, really.)
I love the new Orange Julius Light Smoothies. Each 20 oz. size is 250 calories or less, and they are delicious! My personal favorite is the Berry-Pom Twilight™. If I’m in need of a thirst quencher, an Original Orange Julius Fruit Drink has only 130 calories in a small size.
I was very happy to learn that one of my all-time favorite DQ treats, the DQ sandwich, has only 190 calories. Other lighter treat options include the Cherry StarKiss® bar at 80 calories, and the No Sugar-Added Fudge Bars, which are only 50 calories each (but they taste like they have a lot more). If I have my heart set on a Blizzard Treat, the fruit-based flavors (such as the Banana Split or the Hawaiian) are the lowest-calorie options. The very lowest calorie Blizzard Treat is the small pineapple (DQ soft serve blended with pineapple topping), coming in at just 300 calories.
A few years back, my husband and I got up at 4:30 a.m. to go stand in line at the local Circuit City store the day after Thanksgiving so that we could get some fabulous electronic gadget for one of our fabulous children. Traffic was heavy and it was frigid that night/early morning with temps in the negative 30s Fahrenheit.
We got there a little before 5 a.m., which is when the doors were to open, and saw a line of shoppers from the front of the store out to the street. No parking spaces anywhere. By the time we got to the store the people in line had crushed inside already. I dropped my husband off at the door, while I went off to find a parking spot. My husband met me before I had made it halfway to the store. Nothing was available, and he’d learned that people had begun lining up at 10 p.m. Thanksgiving night. What?! We just laughed and went out for breakfast.
I have terrific memories of shopping the day after Thanksgiving as a teen or later with my kids and my mother-in-law, who just loved the crazy crowds. We’d always stop for an Orange Julius® drink, a perfect pick-me-up after long morning of shopping madness. Sometimes we’d find a bargain or two that was just right, but we never managed to finish our shopping. I still like to go out, but now it’s later in the day, when the shops are a bit quieter and there are still deals to be had.
In an earlier post – Orange Julius® Light Smoothie Launch Party – We talked about the new Orange Julius Light Smoothie line. Here’s a quick recap: Orange Julius is part of International Dairy Queen. Orange Julius just launched a new platform of Light Smoothies. Each of the three new flavors (Strawberry Delight , Berry-Pom Twilight or Tropical Sunlight) contains 1/3 less calories than regular Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies – that’s 250 calories or less in a 20-ounce size.
To celebrate this new line of smoothies, Orange Julius is honoring their customers with a special event on Friday, June 19 – Free Light Smoothie Day!

As I walked into the Dairy Queen® corporate headquarters this morning, I got a warm welcome from our Orange Julius® team (by the way, did you know Dairy Queen owns Orange Julius?) handing out samples of the new Orange Julius Light Smoothies, which contain 1/3 less calories than regular smoothies and come in three flavors–Strawberry Delight™, Berry-Pom Twilight™, and Tropical Sunlight™. Only 250 calories in a 20 oz. size!
The lobby of our corporate headquarters had been transformed… there were decorations, music playing, and free samples of course! I also scored an orange hula hoop, so now I can take on the world to practice my hula hoop skills before summer is here. The goal of the event was to raise awareness about our new Orange Julius Light Smoothies, and that doing the little things can be good for your health – including drinking a Light Smoothie
So as I was in the elevator, I thought to myself, I must share this with our readers on the Dairy Queen blog, Facebook and Twitter! I just included a new link to Orange Julius.com (under DQ® links), where you can sign up for the OJ Quench Club®, check out what’s going on at Orange Julius locations, and find a store near you. After enjoying my free smoothie, I launched the new Orange Julius site, where they have a $1 off coupon for the new Light Smoothies.
After that, I went back down to the lobby for seconds on the free smoothie and took a few pics:

Hula Hooping Fun! (I did try this but was smart enough to hide the camera…)
